opening tip… After a 51-48 season-opening victory against Cumberland County on Wednesday, Prince George's hits the road for the first time this season at the Patrick Henry Tournament. The Owls will face host Patrick Henry on Saturday and then Guilford Technical on Sunday. This will be the second-straight season Prince George's has participated in the tournament and will face the same opponents.

last time out… Gina Seifert registered a career-high 25 points along with 12 rebounds to power Prince George's Community College past Cumberland County College 51-48 in the women's basketball season opener for both teams on Wednesday. Seifert converted 11 of 22 shots from the field and 3 of 6 from the free throw line to notch her second 20 point game and first since scoring 20 points against Brookdale on Jan. 28, 2017. The sophomore also grabbed six rebounds on both ends of the floor to finish with double digits in rebounds for the seventh-straight regular season game dating back to last season. Markaila Carter stuffed the stat sheet with 10 points, five rebounds, four assists and four steals. Rickkia Jackson narrowly missed a double-double in her collegiate debut, finishing with nine points and 10 rebounds in the winning effort.

next time on the hardwood… The Owls will start a two-game homestand on Wednesday against Pennsylvania Highlands on Wednesday before opening Maryland JUCO action on Nov. 15 against Allegany College of Maryland.

having a career day… Sophomore Gina Seifert notched a career-high 25 points against Cumberland County on Nov. 1 while Rickkia Jackson registered a career-best 10 points against the Dukes.

the point is double figures… Sophomore Markaila Carter has scored double digits in 24 of the 25 games she has played for the Largo program. Sophomore Gina Seifert has posted double figures in points once this season and 17 times in her career. Sophomore Myanna Strong has two 10+ point games in her career.

20-20 vision… Sophomore Markaila Carter has posted 20 points five times in her career while fellow sophomore Gina Seifert has two 20-point performances, including one this season.

on the boards… Sophomore Gina Seifert has reached double figures in rebounds 17 times in her career including once in 2017-18. Freshman Rickkia Jackson has one 10+ rebound game this season. Sophomore Markaila Carter had a double-double in 2014-15.

one seifert to rule them all… After playing with her sister Lisa Seifert last season, sophomore Gina Seifert returns in 2017-18 to Prince George's with Lisa now at Salisbury University. The sophomore ranked second on the team with 11.0 points and a team-best 9.4 rebounds per game last season. She has posted two 20-point performances and 17 games with at least 10 points. The sophomore has 17 double-figure rebound performances and 11 double-doubles in her career. In the classroom, Gina Seifert was a 4.0 student last year to earn NJCAA All-Academic first team honors. Seifert is the third of three siblings to play at Prince George's Community College. Along with Lisa, her older brother Stevie was a member of the 2014 NJCAA World Series Owls baseball team. Her mother Teresa has been a professor for 32 years in Largo, was once the women's basketball head coach and was just named the Owls new softball head coach in the fall.

nice to see you again… Sophomore Markaila Carter returns to the Owls after playing women's basketball in Largo for the 2014-15 season. Carter averaged 16.5 points and 4.8 rebounds per game while recording 96 assists and 86 steals in that campaign. That season Prince George's also won the NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament for the fourth time and advanced to the national tournament. Carter posted double figures in points in 23 of the 24 games she played as a freshman including a career-high 28 points against West George Technical in the district championships on Feb. 28, 2015.

welcome to the perch… Head coach Tiona Harris has added freshman Camry Gantt, Daja Latten, Rickkia Jackson and Giovanni Thomas to the team in 2016-17.

that's gold, jerry, gold… Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams will unveil their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and then will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.

alumni appreciation night… The athletics department will be holding Alumni Appreciation Night that will also include Prince George's faculty and staff on Dec. 6 against CCBC Catonsville at 5/7 p.m. Alumni, faculty or staff that wish to participate in the event must pre-register at www.pgccowls.com/alumninight in order to receive up to four free tickets, a free gift and discounted meals. Deadline is Dec. 1. Prince George's will also be holding a Kid's Night Out on Jan. 17.

hall of fame… Prince George's will be holding its inaugural Hall of Fame as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration. Nominations are currently being accepted until Dec. 15 by going to www.pgccowls.com/halloffame.

hosting maryland juco tournament… Prince George's will be hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament for both men's and women's basketball on Feb. 23-25.

women's basketball tradition… The women's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament seven times (1973-74, 1974-75, 1977-78, 1978-79, 1985-86, 1988-89 and 2000-01) and the NJCAA Region XX title four times (1974-75, 1988-89, 2005-06 and 2015-16).

about the coach… Head coach Tiona Harris, a former women's basketball standout at Prince George's Community College, begins her seventh season as head coach of the Owls. She guided the Owls to the 2014-15 NJCAA Region XX Division III title and a trip to the national tournament.
