Prince George's Women's Basketball Falls To Montgomery In NJCAA Division III Region XX Championship Game

ROCKVILLE, Md. - Montgomery College defeated Prince George's Community College 108-79 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Region XX Women's Basketball Championship Game on Sunday.

Asisha Greene (Washington, D.C.) paced the Owls (12-13) with 31 points along with seven rebounds to earn a spot on the all-tournament team. The freshman notched her third 30-point performance of the season while also posting double figures in every game including 10 games with at least 25 points. The nation's capital native connected on 13 of her 23 shots from the field and 5 of 10 from the charity stripe and finished her first campaign in Largo with a 21.4 points per game average.

Gina Seifert (Owings, Md.) added 10 points and seven rebounds to also earn a spot on the all-tournament team while Dakota Kinard (Capital Heights, Md.) posted nine points and Andrea Durant-Smith (Temple Hills, Md.) tallied six points and nine rebounds in the loss.

Sherri Addison powered the Raptors (22-5) with 41 points thanks to being a perfect 20-for-20 from the free throw line. Addison also added 14 rebounds while Armonie Lomax recorded 33 points and 11 rebounds, Alandra Blandy chipped in 19 points and Anu Bamijoko hauled in a game-high 17 rebounds in the winning effort.

Montgomery College took the lead from the start and held off a third quarter rally by Prince George's and went on for the victory to earn the Region XX title.

Montgomery jumped out toa 16-4 lead with 3:30 left in the first quarter thanks to four points apiece by Addison and Jewell Johnson.

The Owls scored the next six points on a layup by Tatiana Garvin (Bowie, Md.) and a pair of Greene baskets to trim the margin to 16-10 with 2:14 left in the quarter.

The Raptors closed the frame on a 12-4 run to go into the second quarter with a 28-14 advantage. Lomax posted seven of the 12 points in the spurt.

In the second quarter, Montgomery extended the lead to 19 points at 35-16 with 8:19 on the clock and Prince George's trimmed the margin to 12 points at 1:54, but the Raptors went into the locker room with a 52-38 lead.

Trailing 59-46 with 6:25 left in the third quarter, Prince George's scored eight of the next 10 points to trim the margin to 61-54 with 3:34 on the clock.

Greene started the rally with a layup at 5:37 before Lomax and Greene traded baskets to maintain the 11-point margin. Durant-Smith followed with a jumper at 4:01 and Seifert capped the spurt ith a basket in the paint at 3:34 to make it a seven-point game.

Sparked by nine points by Addison, Montgomery closed the frame on a 16-4 run and went on for the victory.
