Owls Lose a Tough one at Home

Largo, MD. - The Lady Owls looked energetic and enthused to battle Cumberland County College after having nine days since their last contest. This early season layoff seemed to have carried the Owls throughout the first half has they were able to start the game on a high note.

Rashanda Chandler and Coneisha Smith picked up where they left off offensively and pushed the Owls to a 10pt lead early in the game. Chandler went 6 of 8 from behind the arc while Smith scored timely baskets and had 14pts to give the Owls the 38-28 halftime lead.

The third quarter started similar to the beginning of the game with the Lady Owls winning the battle on the boards. This resulted in easy points and forced Cumberland to use early timeouts. This slowed the pace and changed the momentum of the game with Cumberland making a run at the end of the third to cut into the Owls lead. This momentum swing continued in favor of Cumberland deep into the fourth quarter as they were able to cut the lead to 63-61 with less than five minutes left to play.

Cumberland continued to slow the pace in the fourth and tied the game at 69 apiece with 58 seconds left to play. With both teams exchanging possession without a score, Cumberland got the opportunity from the charity strike and made one of two free throws. This ultimately sealed the Owls faith and gave Cumberland the 70-69 lead to end the contest.

The owls will look to get back on track on December 12, 2015 when they travel to play Hagerstown in another Conference matchup. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM.
