Largo, MD. – The Lady Owls basketball team was able to pick up their first win of the season with a dominant performance over CCBC Catonsville on Wednesday, November 18.
Both teams got off to a slow start with the Owls clinging to a 9-8 lead to end the first quarter. The second quarter saw a much needed offensive explosion the game needed from the Owls. The team scored a combine 22 points and defensively stifled the Cardinals, only allowing 5 points. This gave the Owls a comfortable 31-13 lead heading into the half.
The second half saw both teams trading baskets. The Cardinals showed different offensive burst which cut the lead to 8 points early in the fourth quarter. However, the Owls made timely baskets that seemed to deflate the Cardinals and ultimately stretched the lead to a final score of 61-41.
Coneisha Smith, Ivie Foster and Justine Shepperson was huge for the Owls on the day. Smith had a game high 28 points and 18 boards while Foster and Shepperson chipped in with 8 points apiece with 16 and 14 boards respectively.
The Lady Owls will be in action again on Saturday, November 21, when they host Westmorland Community College. Tipoff is set for 2:00 PM.
