The Prince George's men's soccer team dropped their first home game of the season on Thursday, September 19th, falling to the NJCAA's 20th ranked Division I program, Montgomery College by a final score of 3-0.
The Owls held strong for a majority of the first half, holding the Raptors scoreless until the 43rd minute when Montgomery connected on a deflected corner kick which just got past a diving Jairo Caceres in goal for Prince George's. The Owls came close to tying things up in the 53rd minute when Zico Tesheria, the nation's leading goal scorer among DII programs, put a shot on frame but the Raptors keeper was able to collect it to keep his team in front.
Montgomery later tacked on another goal in the 73rd minute to increase their lead to 2. Tesheira gave his team another chance at a goal in the 81st when he created just enough space to put another shot on frame but a diving save by Montgomery pushed the ball out of play, preserving the two-goal lead for the Raptors. Montgomery added one more with a penalty kick goal with five minutes remaining to cap off the scoring and deal the Owls their second loss of the season.
Montgomery outpaced the Owls in both corner kicks (5-2), and shots (18-6). Despite allowing three goals, Caceres kept the game from getting out of reach, finishing with 8 saves, a new high for him on the year.
Prince George's now sits at 4-2-2 on the year ahead of their next matchup against another DI opponent, Harford Community College, on Tuesday, September 24th at home in Largo.
