Prince George’s Escapes with Narrow 3-2 Road Victory

Another highly physical contest for Prince George's was ultimately decided in the first half after the Owls traded goals back and forth against Union County College on Sunday, October 14th.  Union County (whose team mascot is also the Owls) hosted the match at Kean University's East Campus in Hillside, New Jersey. Prince George's (9-2-1, 7-2-1 in MD JUCO) rallied to earn the win after initially falling behind 1-0 early on.

Union County (6-7-2, 5-3-1 in GSAC) scored first in the 7th minute to lead 1-0. Play then intensified as members of both squads earned a yellow card in both the 16th and 17th minutes before freshman Franklin Urrutia scored his first goal of the season for Prince George's in the 25th minute off of a deflection from a corner kick to even the score 1-1. Union County wasted little time in regaining the lead after scoring on a crossing ball in the 27th minute to lead 2-1. Prince George's retaliated when sophomore Temilolu Idowu found fellow sophomore Brandon Betts who placed the ball past Union's keeper in the 35th minute to again even the score 2-2. Prince George's was handed another yellow card in the 45th minute but not before Urrutia scored his second goal of the day from a Betts corner kick to claim a 3-2 lead heading into halftime.

Prince George's held strong in the second half, creating five more shots while goalkeeper Austin Geier added five more saves to frustrate Union County. Tempers flared over when Union County's Jahlany Jarvis received his second card of the contest in the 85th minute, causing him to be ejected and for his team to play a man down the remainder of the game. Prince George's held onto the lead for the remaining minutes to secure the 3-2 victory and gain some positive momentum before another tough road match against Montgomery County on Tuesday, October 15th.
