Owls Edge NOVA With Early Goal From Romero

A hard fought game in Largo, MD for the Owls home opener against the Northern Virginia Nighthawks was ultimately decided by a penalty kick just 8 minutes and 32 seconds into the match. Freshman Miguel Rosales Romero was tackled in the box which led to the penalty shot. Romero delivered, placing the ball away from the keeper to find the back of the net.

The Owls set the tone early on the offensive side of the ball, creating three corner kick opportunities and finishing with thirteen shots by the end of the first half. Meanwhile Prince George's was able to hold NOVA to only four shots and allowed zero corner kicks at halftime.   While the Owls created plenty of chances they were unable to capitalize.

NOVA answered the Owls aggressive play to start the second half by creating quality looks on goal. It appeared the Nighthawks were successful at one point when they were able to get one past goalkeeper Austin Geier who finished with 6 saves, but it was called back for offsides.

The aggressive play continued throughout the half which lead to frustration for both squads. Yellow cards to both teams 5 minutes into the half set the tone for the remainder of the game. Both Prince George's and NOVA received three more yellow cards which resulted in a red card for Nighthawk Bryan Kaanan with only 6 minutes left to play.

Despite being a man down the Nighthawks continued their attack, placing pressure on the Owls defense which refused to give up. The Owls were able to keep the Nighthawks off the scoreboard to finish the game 1-0. The Owls improve to 2-0 heading into Labor Day Weekend.

Up next for the Owls is an away game at CCBC Catonsville on Thursday, September 5th where Prince George's will look to continue their hot start to the season.
