No. 8 Prince George’s Begins Quest For Region XX Championship Against Emory Oxford

Prince George's men's soccer returns to the pitch Friday, November 1st in Siegert Stadium at Anne Arundel Community College where they will face Emory Oxford in the NJCAA Region XX Division III semifinals. The Owls (10-3-1) earned the #2 seed in the tournament after defeating Anne Arundel Community College at home on Wednesday, October 23rd. Oxford College of Emory University (Oxford, GA) competes in Region XVII and has earned the #3 seed as a part of the Appalachian district.

The matchup should prove to be a shootout as both squads rank in the top five of NJCAA's Division III men's soccer in shots per game. Emory Oxford (9-2-1) ranks second with 24.9 shots per game while Prince George's ranks fifth with 20.9 shots per game. However, the Owls have also been able to keep their opponents out of goal by allowing only .91 goals surrendered per game, good for seventh in the nation among division III colleges. 

The Owls have been led by sophomores Temilolu Idowu and Brandon Betts down the stretch who lead the team in points with 18 and 17, respectively. . Both have also recorded at least one game-winning goal in overtime, most recently from Idowu who netted the only goal in a 1-0 win over Anne Arundel last time out. Prince George's will look to get off to a quick start against the Eagles before relying on their defense to preserve the lead.

Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. The winner of the matchup will face the winner of the 2:30 p.m. semifinal matchup between the #1 seed Howard or the #4 seed Anne Arundel in Saturday's championship game.
