Owls Finish Regular Season With Overtime Thriller Over Anne Arundel To Secure #2 Seed in Region XX Tournament

Prince George's men's soccer found themselves in familiar territory Wednesday, October 23^rd as they were heading into overtime on their home field against Anne Arundel, the third such time the Owls have went into overtime on their own field this season. Similar to his overtime winner against CCBC Essex on September 10^th, sophomore Temilolu Idowu again quickly found the back of the net for the game winning goal. The victory marked the third overtime win for Prince George's on the season, lifting the Owls to 10-3-1, 8-3-1 while Anne Arundel fell to 8-6-1, 5-6-1.

A hard fought battle by both teams, the Owls prevailed in the 92^nd minute of play when sophomore Brandon Betts charged down the right sideline, playing the ball to freshman Alexis Gvevara in the middle who then found Idowu and put the ball past the Riverhawks keeper. The Owls had been on the attack for the majority of the game, creating 22 total shots. Betts had multiple promising attacks throughout the contest that looked like they may give the Owls the lead, but Riverhawks goalkeeper Brenden LeMaster held strong for Anne Arundel with 9 saves. The Owls own keeper Austin Geier was put to work as well, producing 6 saves which included a diving stop in the first half from a Riverhawks free kick that looked like it was on its way across the goal line.

Down the stretch it appeared the Owls were finally about to score after Anne Arundel's keeper had brought the ball up near midfield when the Owls stole it away. Sophomore Alan Hernandez found himself winding up for a shot in the 88^th minute on an empty net from about 30 yards out but it was deflected and ended up nearly missing just wide right. The ensuing corner kick was well defended and forced the game into overtime.

The overtime goal gave Idowu his seventh on the season to lead the Owls in scoring and in overall points (17). The Owls also recorded their fifth shutout of the season after keeping the Riverhawks out of goal. With the win the Owls earned the second seed for the upcoming Region XX/Appalachian District Division III championships. Prince George's will face third seeded Emory Oxford (Oxford, Georgia) on Friday, November 1^st at 5:00 p.m. in Seigert Stadium on Anne Arundel Community College's campus in Arnold, MD.
