Owls Defeat CCBC Essex 2-1 in Overtime

Just five days after a disappointing 1-1 tie against CCBC Catonsville, Prince George's men's soccer showed they had plenty to prove after defeating Maryland JUCO powerhouse CCBC Essex 2-1 in overtime. Sophomore Temilolu Idowu scored the game winning goal just 15 seconds into the first period of overtime to stun the Knights.

The Knights came out strong, scoring the first goal barely 3 minutes into the contest from sophomore Isaiah Price who was able to get past the Owls defense. The Owls quickly responded with a goal of their own when freshman Nathan Asamoah found sophomore Chris Garcia who then placed the ball out of reach of the Knights goalkeeper to even the score (1-1) thirteen minutes into the match. The Owls continued to place pressure on the Knights defense, finishing the first half with 7 shots but were unable to take the lead.

Both teams tightened up on defense in the second half which resulted in physical play on both sides of the ball. Prince George's had a few promising offensive attacks but were called back as they struggled to stay onsides. Goalkeeper Austin Geier had 2 saves down the stretch to keep the score 1-1 and send the Owls to overtime.

The Owls won the coin toss to begin and seemingly as quickly as overtime began, the team was celebrating their hard fought victory. The Owls elected to begin with possession to begin the period and marched right down the field where Alan Hernandez found Temilolu Idowu who was able to find the back of the net.

The Owls victory comes a day after being ranked #8 in NJCAA's Division III Men's Soccer Poll. Up next for Prince George's is an away match against MD JUCO opponent Carroll Community College this Thursday, September 12th. The match is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
