Prince George's Men's Soccer Seasons Ends In Overtime Of The NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament Semifinals

COLUMBIA, Md. – Jalen Washington (Washington, D.C./DeMatha) tied the game in the 64th minute to give Prince George's Community College hope in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III semifinals, but the Owls hopes of moving onto the championship game were dashed by a Howard Community College golden goal in the 96th minute on Thursday. 

After the Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute and held the advantage for the first 63 minutes, Washington found the left netting at the 63:55 mark to even the score at 1. Aboubacarr Sinera (Lanham, Md./Parkdale) made nine saves for Prince George's. 

The matched marked the final games for Washington, David Olabisi (District Heights, Md./DuVal) and Moh Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) in an Owls uniform. Washington finished his one season in Largo with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Olabisi, who played for Prince George's in 2015 and 2018, was a staple in the defense this season while collecting four goals and one assist for nine points in his career including three tallies for six points this season. Sherif, who played the last two seasons in Largo, ranked second on the team with five markers and four assists for 14 points while finishing his career with eight goals and five assists for 21 points.

After Washington's goal, the Largo team outshot the Dragons 4-3 in the final 26 minutes of regulation. The squad had a flurry of chances in the ensuing four minutes after Washington's goal, but Washington and Hector Ortiz (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) had shots thwarted by the defense and Washington missed wide in this span. Howard's best chance came when a player hit it off the posting the closing minutes of regulation.

Before the decisive score, each team had a shot with Olabisi missing a header wide in the 93rd minute and Sinera coming up with a stop in the 92nd minute.

Prince George's finished the first season under the direction of Tony Galeano 9-7-1 and 6-5 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference action. 

The game pitted the previous two region champions after the Owls took the title in 2016 and the Dragons are the defending region champions while it also marked the second-straight season the two teams have played in the 2-3 matchup and played to the identical score.
