Prince George's Men's Soccer Opens Tony Galeano Era At Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday

LARGO, Md. – The Tony Galeano era with the Prince George's Community College men's soccer program will be tested with the first three games against a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I program, and two teams ranked in the Top-5 of the NJCAA Division III Preseason Poll including the defending national champions. The squad opens the season at Hagerstown Community College on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

The Owls have 20 players on its roster from Prince George's County with sophomore midfielder Moh Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) the lone returner from last year's team. The sophomore midfielder posted three goals and one assist for seven points as a freshman after twinkling the twine against Howard Community College, Montgomery College and Allegany College of Maryland.

Prince George's, who had two of the top scoring threats in the nation in 2017, will look to freshmen forwards Guillame Nseke (Bowie, Md./Largo), Jean Perrin (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and Habib Rahmin (Riverdale, Md./Diocesan) to lead the way up front.

Joining Sherif in the midfield are freshman Eyob Ayele (Hyattsville, Md./Kelemework), Roban Boima (Hyattsville, Md./DuVal), Chris Garcia (Fort Washington, Md./Friendly) and Alan Hernandez (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern). 

Sophomore David Olabisi (District Heights, Md./DuVal) and freshmen Francisco Canton (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern) and Eryck Manzanares (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale) are listed as both midfielders and defenders.

Also in the back are freshmen Ross Brandon (Washington, D.C./DeMatha), Dennis Medizebal (Mount Rainer, Md./Northwestern), Jonathan Merino (Cheverly, Md./Northwestern), Hector Ortiz (Hyattsville, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) and Linuel Tibet (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern).

The pipes will be protected by freshmen goalkeepers Aboubacarr Sinera (Hyattsville, Md./Parkdale) and Yoaimo Khan Torres (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt).

After the Owls open the season at Hagerstown on Tuesday, the squad will battle defending national NJCAA Division III champion Genesee Community College on Sunday at the Tom Bichy Tournament at the Maryland Soccerplex hosted by Montgomery College on Sunday. The squad then travels to No. 5 Howard Community College on Sept. 11 before opening its home slate against Union County College on Sept. 15.

Last season, Prince George's posted a 12-4 overall record and a 9-3 mark in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO). The Owls defeated a nationally-ranked program twice in the campaign with a 3-1 win against No. 8 Nassau Community College and No. 8 Montgomery College. The Largo program enters the 2018 season unranked after being in the NJCAA Division III poll for all eight weeks of the regular season and preseason in 2017.

Galeano is a veteran soccer head coach with 15 years of experience coaching in the MD JUCO. He has produced 16 NJCAA All-Americans, four NJCAA Academic All-Americans, two NJCAA National Championship appearances, five NJCAA Region XX Tournament titles, 12 Region XX Tournament Championship Game appearances and four MD JUCO crowns. He has been named the MD JUCO Coach of the Year once, NJCAA Region XX Coach of the Year and MD JUCO Coach of the Year honors three times apiece. He has won the NJCAA Division I Region XX title in 2003, 2005, 2006 and 2011 and advanced to the national tournament in 2011. His squads also participated in the NJCAA Division I Region XX title game in 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010.
