Prince George's Men's Soccer Edged By Howard In Overtime, 4-3

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to Howard Community College in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX and Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's soccer action on Tuesday.

Cristian Benavides (Laurel, Md./Overseas), Moh Sherif (Capital Heights, Md./Central) and Fabian Castillo (Clinton, Md./Gwynn Park) scored three-straight goals to give the Owls (8-3-0, 5-3-0 MD JUCO) a 3-2 lead going into the intermission.

Trailing 2-0, Benavides answered the Dragons (6-4-1, 5-1-1 MD JUCO) second tally 20 seconds later when he knocked in Roshawn Panton's (Bowie, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) rebound into the netting at 18:40 to cut the margin to 2-1.

Sherif then tied the match at 2 with his first collegiate marker off a feeder from Edwin Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) at the 31:36 mark. Castillo, who was seeing his first action of the season, tied the game when he drilled a shot from the far side of midfield that snuck its way into the twine for his first goal of the year and seventh of his career.

Kyree Akinkuwo posted two goals on the evening for Howard, including the game-winner in the 97th minute. Akinkuwo twinkled the twine off a rebound from Steve Amankwah at the 96:50 mark to give the Dragons the victory. Akinkuwo gave the visitors a 2-0 lead with his tally at the 18:20 mark for his first goal of the night.

Steve Amankwah tied the game at 3 a score at 76:55 while his brother Francis Amankwah registered the first tally of the match off a pass from Gabriel Rojas at 7:16.

Jonathan Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) made four saves for the Owls while Simon Bradford turned away six shots for Howard. Prince George's had only one shot in the final 20 minutes and five seconds after the Dragons squared the match at 3. 

The Largo program finished the season 5-2 at home and will play its final four regular season matches on the road.

Prince George's returns to action on Friday at the College of Southern Maryland. Match time is 4 p.m.
