Edwin Claros' Two Goals And An Assist Surges Prince George's Past Frederick, 3-1

LARGO, Md. – Edwin Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) had a hand in all three goals to help Prince George's Community College past Frederick Community College 3-1 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's soccer action on Friday night.

Edwin Claros scored in the 25th minute to tie the game at 1 and then took a feed from Cristian Benavides (Laurel, Md./Overseas) in the 29th minute and then returned the favor for Benavides in the second half to seal the victory against last season's conference champions. The sophomore ranks second on the team with 13 tallies and a team-best 10 assists for 36 points.

Benavides notched his third marker of the season in the 57th minute for the Owls (8-2-0, 5-2-0 MD JUCO) while Jonathan Claros (Adelphi, Md./High Point) made two saves in the winning effort.

Elmer Ochoa found the twine for the Cougars (6-4-0, 4-3-0 MD JUCO) while Marco De Lauri turned away two shots in the loss.

Frederick scored the first goal of the evening before Prince George's posted the final three goals to come away second-consecutive victory.

After 21 scoreless minutes, Ochoa found the back of the net off a pass from Kareem Salmon at the 21:41 mark to give the Cougars a 1-0 edge.

The lead would last less than three minutes after Edwin Claros twinkled the twine unassisted at 24:05 to even the match at 1. Three minutes and 57 seconds later, the sophomore took a feeder from Benavides to give the Owls the lead it would not relinquish.

Edwin Claros returned the favor to Benavides in the second half to seal a 3-1 victory at the 56:50 mark.

Prince George's returns to action on Tuesday at the PGCC Bermuda Soccer Field against Howard Community College. Match time is 6 p.m.
