Prince George's Men's Soccer Ranked Sixth In NJCAA Division III Preseason Rankings

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's Community College men's soccer team has been tabbed sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Men's Soccer Preseason Rankings, announced on Wednesday.

The Owls were ranked for five weeks last season, including sitting in the No. 6 spot for the final two weeks of the regular season. The squad comes into the 2017 season in the same spot it ended 2016 with its No. 6 ranking.

Richland is the preseason No. 1 team while Camden County, Genesee, Herkimer and Nassau cap the top half of the poll. Prince George's, Suffolk County, Bristol, Bergen and Anoka-Ramsey round out the 10-team poll.

The Owls face one member of the preseason rankings when the team hosts Nassau at the Soccerplex in Germantown on Sept. 3.

Last year, Prince George's defeated Montgomery 1-0 in the NJCAA Division III Region XX Championship Game to earn a trip to the NJCAA Division III Championships where the squad finished fifth in the national tournament. The Owls finished the 2016 season 14-7-1 and 8-3 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference play.

Prince George's is scheduled to open the season against Mercer County on Aug. 23 at the PGCC Bermuda Soccer Field. Match time is 6 p.m.
