Men’s soccer cruise to victory over Nighthawks

The Owls men's soccer team carried over the momentum from their statement win over Howard Community College last week, as they hosted the Northern Virginia Community College Nighthawks on Monday, October 17th, 2016.

Freshman midfielder Edwin Claros continued his impressive season with a neat finish in the 12th minute, assisted by an Alton West throw in. The Owls continued to assert their dominance and their relentless pressure paid off as they broke through once again, 6 minutes later. Claros turned provider this time, beating 3 defenders before finding an unmarked West, within close range.

With the first half ending at 2-0, the Nighthawks had to wait until the 59th minute to find a response through Joshua Cornwell, assisted by Leland Jameson. The result however, seemed never in doubt for the Owls with Walid Yacoubou and Ian Kisakye regrouping the Owls' back-four and offering no clear openings for the Nighthawks thereafter. The Owls then went on to seal the game through another Edwin Claros goal in the 65th minute, assisted by Alejandro Avelar.

The result puts the Owls, now 7-3 in their conference, in pole position to be seeded going into the Region XX playoffs on their home turf.
