Tough Over-time Loss to End Season

Largo, MD. - With the number 2 rankings in the Region XX DIII Tournament, the Owls men were given a bye into the semi-finals where they played and knocked off Anne Arundel Community College by a 4-3 score line. This was a hard fought game by both teams but the Owls found a way to defeat the Riverhawks for the second time this year, after also beating them in the regular season. Angelo Ridore had a brace with his two early goals in the first half, Davion Alcock scored before half-time and Ngeh Mbah scored the winning goal in the 83 minute to advance the Owls into the finals. Kevin Chavez also made a huge impact for the Owls as he was credited with 3 assist on the evening.

In the finals against Montgomery on Saturday, October 31st, the Owls took the early lead when Kelly Marah found the side netting with a header from an Angelo Ridore cross. This goal stood until midway into the half before Montgomery was able to mount a counter attack and score a goal from close range to tie the game at 1-1 before the halftime whistle. Montgomery then followed up with another goal from a deflected shot in the box to take the 2-1 lead early in the second half. The Owls men who had most of the possession during the first half continued the second in the same manner and again Kelly Marah was able to score on a rebound from a deflected shot by Ridore. This tied the game at 2 apiece and eventually sent the fixture into overtime.

In the first overtime period, both teams exchanged shots on goal even though the Owls seemed to have mustered the better chances. With three minutes to go in the second overtime, Montgomery earned the win with a hopeful shot that found a player wide open on the far post. This goal gave Montgomery the overtime win and ended the 2015 season for the Owls.

Although the Owls lost, they were only one goal away from competing for a National Championship. The Owls finished the season with a 14-6-2 over-all record, are ranked 10th nationally by the NJCAA and were ranked as high as 8th in the country during the regular season.
