The Owls now stand at 2-2-0 on the season

Freshmen Kevin Chavez and Glodo Melendez scored a goal each but Prince George's Community College men's soccer team suffered its second defeat of the season by a 4-2 score to Anne Arundel on Friday evening.

The Owls now stand at 2-2-0 on the season, after earning the 5th spot on the national poll last week.

Anne Arundel scored twice in the first half to jump out to a 2-1 lead at the break.

The Owls fought back and threatened the Pioneers goal with numerous shots on target. However, it was the Pioneers that opened the second half of scoring from a counter attack that resulted in a corner kick.  From the corner kick, a soft clearance saw the Pioneers extended their lead when a low shot crept passed the Owls goalkeeper to put the Owls at a 3-1 disadvantage.

The Pioneers increased their lead once again in the 77th minute with another goal to push their lead to 4-1.

Just minutes later, Owls freshman Glodo Melendez pounced on a rebound and was able to beat the keeper to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Freshman goalkeeper Christopher Lampkins made three stops in goal and suffered his second loss of the season.

The Owls held a 15-9 edge in shots in the match, while Anne Arundel took five corner kicks to the Owls' four.

The Owls men will be in action again on Wednesday, when they travel to face Hagerstown Community College at 4 p.m.
