Strong Second Half Lifts Owls Over CCAC Allegheny

Prince George's men's basketball returned to Novak Field House on Sunday, January 11th to take on the Community College of Allegheny County (CCAC) in a region 20 matchup. Coming off a frustrating home loss to CCBC Dundalk three days prior, it looked like the Owls were heading towards another disappointing performance as the first half got underway until the Owls turned things around with a 10-0 run to close out the half and head into halftime with a 40-34 lead. Forward Isaiah Miles sparked the ten point run for the Owls with a made layup and ensuing three-pointer. Miles would lead all scorers at the break with 14 points including a perfect 5 for 5 from the charity stripe.
CCAC's Wildcats responded in the second half to take back a 54-51 lead with 13:32 left to play before Tunde Scrivner connected on a three-pointer to tie the game. Scrivner then stole the ball from the Wildcats on their next possession and sent a perfect alley-oop pass to Isaiah Miles who threw down a one handed dunk in stride in what became part of an 11-0 run to put the Owls up 63-54.
The Wildcats were able to stay within reach of the Owls before Prince George's exploded for a 20-0 run that stretched over four and a half minutes to put the game out of reach, 87-60 with 4:09 left to play. Scrivner scored 12 of the Owls 20 points during the game sealing run, 9 of which came from beyond the arc. The Owls would wind up earning a 90-72 win to lift their record to 11-5 while CCAC fell to 6-8 with the loss. The win marked the second time this season the Owls have defeated CCAC, the first of which came back in November when the Owls won 93-82 in the Garrett Classic Tournament.
Four different Owls scored in double figures in the victory, with Scrivner leading the way with 27 points. Isaiah Miles was right behind with 26 points while also collecting 11 rebounds in his fifth double-double performance of the year. Up next for Prince George's is a matchup with Baltimore City Community College on Wednesday, January 15th. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 pm.
