Morales Powers Prince George's Men's Basketball Into the NJCAA DIII District VII Championship Game With 88-76 Win

PINEHURST, N.C. – Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Catholic) posted 31 points and 16 rebounds to power Prince George's Community College past West Georgia Technical College 88-76 and into the NJCAA Division III District VII Championship Game in men's basketball action on Friday.

With the win, the Owls (22-5) will play host Sandhills Community College in the NJCAA Division III District VII Championship Game on Saturday. The Flyers advanced to the title bout after defeating Anne Arundel Community College 88-76 on Friday. The winner advancing to the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship on March 14-16 at the UCR Regional Sports Center in Rochester, Minn.

The Largo team took a 37-35 lead going into the locker room and then pulled away with a 51-41 second half.

Morales went 11-for-19 from the floor, 3 of 4 from behind the and 6 of 14 from the free throw line to notch his second career 30-point game of his career. The sophomore now has 17 games of 20 points or more while he has posted double figures in points in  45 of 53 tilts in his career.  Morales also has 20 double-doubles this season including 15 of his last 16 games and 28 for his career.

Morales has registered 20+ points in four-straight games, five of his last six and six of his last nine games. In addition, he has registered 15 rebounds in two-consecutive games, three of his last six and four of his last nine games. The 2019 NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament Most Valuable Player is averaging 25.8 points and 14.3 rebounds per game in his last four tilts and 22.2 points and 13.1 rebounds in his last nine contests. For the season, he fuels the team with 20.2 points and 12.0 rebounds per game.

Tunde Scrivner (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) added 16 points, six rebounds, four assists and four steals. The freshman has scored double figures in 26 of the 27 games this season. He has hauled in five or more rebounds per game. Scrivner ranks second on the squad with 17.7 points per game.

After matching his career high in the NJCAA Region XX Division III Championship Game on Sunday, Miles Weaver (Alexandria, Va./Takoma Academy) established a new career best of 14 points against West Georgia Technical. The freshman has registered double digits six times in his freshman campaign.

Jalen Robinson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) chipped in 11 points on Friday. It was the eighth time this season he has posted double figures in points.

Dexter Turner (Washington, D.C./Idea Public Charter) registered seven assists and six rebounds while Darren Rivers (District Heights, Md./DuVal) hauled in nine boards in the win.

Prince George's is looking to go to the NJCAA Men's Basketball Championships for the first time since the 2008 season. The Owls, who advanced to the district title game for the second-straight year, have played Sandhills three times since the 2014-15 season. The last meeting, Sandhills defeated Prince George's 75-69 in OT on Nov. 11, 2016 while the last tilt in the postseason was a Sandhills 99-92 overtime victory in 2014-15 in the district semifinals.
