Sixth-Ranked Prince George's Men's Basketball Gets Back To Winning Ways With Win Against Garrett

LARGO, Md. – Tunde Scrivner (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) scored 18 points to power sixth-ranked Prince George's Community College past Garrett College 71-61 in Maryland JUCO men's basketball action on Saturday.

Scrivner shot 7-for-14 from the floor, made three shots from behind the arc and a free throw to finish with 18 points (18-3, 9-3 MD JUCO) on the afternoon. The freshman has scored double figures in six-straight games since he missed the mark for the first time in his collegiate career and has posted at least 15 points in five of those six tilts. He is averaging 20.3 points per game in those six games and ranks second on the team with 17.5 points per game.

Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Catholic) notched a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds along with five assists. The current NJCAA Division III Player of the Week has posted a double-double nine times in his last 10 games and has 14 double-doubles this season. He has scored double figures in all 21 games on the year and has dished out five or more assists 15 times in his sophomore campaign. Morales leads the team with 19.1 points and 11.4 rebounds per game.

Dariel Medina (Silver Spring, Md./James H. Blake) added 10 points off the bench. The sophomore has scored double digits five timers this season an six times in his career. Medina reached 10 points for the first time in seven games after he scored double figures in three-straight games.

Dexter Turner (Washington D.C./Idea Public Charter), Scrivner and Morales made back-to-back-to-back baskets with the game tied at 12 to give Prince George's the lead for good with 11:31 left in the opening half. The Lakers cut the margin to 27-25 with 1:24 remaining in the first half before Medina drained a trey and two free throws to close out the stanza and hand the Owls a 32-25 lead going into the locker room.   

In the second half, Garrett cut it to one point twice but Kevin Chase (Hyattsville, Md./Henry Wise) posted a basket and Turner a triple with 15:01 remaining. With the Owls holding a 41-39 edge, Srivner powered a 12-2 run to open up a 53-41 lead with 11:58 left. The Lakers did not get closer than eight points the rest of the way.

Turner posted seven points and 10 assists while David Burriss (Washington, D.C./Woodrow Wilson) hauled in seven boards in the winning effort.

Prince George's is currently scheduled to return to action on Wednesday at Allegany (Md.). Game time is 7 p.m.
