Sixth-Ranked Prince George's Men's Basketball Win Streak Snapped By Cecil College

NORTH EAST, Md. – Sixth-ranked Prince George's Community College had its five-game winning streak snapped with a 75-61 loss against Cecil College in Maryland JUCO men's basketball action on Wednesday. The Owls (17-3, 8-3 MD JUCO) gained national attention this week by entering the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III poll for the first time this season and sophomore Alex Morales (Paterson, N.J./Manchester Catholic) was named the NJCAA Division III Player of the Week.

Jalen Robinson (Bowie, Md./Bowie) established a new career high in points for the second-straight game with 14 points on Wednesday night. The sophomore shot 5-for-8 from the floor, 1 of 4 from behind the arc and 3 of 3 from the free throw line. Robinson, who scored a then career-best 13 points against CCBC Catonsville on Friday, has posted six 10+-point games this season including five in his last eight tilts. He is averaging 9.1 points per game since joining the starting lineup in the last seven contests.

Morales added 12 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing his ninth-straight double-double. The sophomore has scored double figures in all 20 games this season and has 13 double-doubles. Morales leads the team with 19.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. He has been recognized twice this season. Along with the NJCAA Division III Men's Basketball Player of the Week, he was selected as the Maryland JUCO Men's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Month of December and will be a contender for the honor in January.

Tunde Scrivner (Washington, D.C./H.D. Woodson) chipped in 10 points and five rebounds. The freshman has posted double figures in 19 of the 20 games this season and has hauled in at least five boards 10 times this season including four of the last five tilts. Scriver ranks second on the team with 17.5 points per game.

Moetaz Ashkar (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale) gave Prince George's its only lead of the night on the opening basket 11 seconds into the evening. The Seahawks then scored back-to-back baskets to take the lead for good. With Cecil leading 11-7, the Seahawks used a 16-9 run to take a 27-16 lead on their way to a 36-27 lead going into the locker room.

The closest the Owls got in the second half was eight-points down with 13:55 left after Darren Rivers (District Heights, Md./DuVal) scored in the lane to cut the deficit to 48-40. Cecil scored 27 of the final 48 points to earn the 75-61 win.

Ashkar added nine points and five rebounds in the loss.

The squad is 17-3 on the year, including 9-0 against non-conference teams and 8-3 against the circuit. Even with the loss, the Owls remain in the Top-4 of the Maryland JUCO standings with three games to play.

Prince George's returns to Novak Field House to start its final homestand of the regular season against Chesapeake College on Friday. Game time is 7 p.m.
