Prince George's Men's Basketball Players Johnson, Stone And Ford Receive All-NJCAA Region XX Division III Recognition

LARGO, Md. – Sophomores Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) and Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County), members of the Prince George's Community College men's basketball team, have been named to the All-National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III first team announced on Friday. Fellow sophomore Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National Collegiate) earned All-NJCAA Region XX Division III honorable mention. It is the first honor for Ford while Johnson nabbed All-Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference first-team recognition and Stone was selected to the second team.

Johnson, a 6-4 guard, ranked ninth in the region with 17.2 points per game. The sophomore posted double figures in 29 of the 31 games this season including 12 games with at least 20 points and a 30-point performance against Chesapeake College on Dec. 14. Johnson also registered double figures in rebounds eight times this season for eight double-doubles. The Seat Pleasant, Md., native also tallied a triple-double with 21 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists against Garrett College on Jan. 13.

Johnson registered double figures in points in 55 of 61 games in his career. He reached 20 points 24 times in his career and also has three 30-point games on his resume. The sophomore also had eight double-doubles and a triple-double to his credit. Johnson, who reached the 1,000-point mark in the NJCAA Division III Region XX semifinals against Westmoreland County Community College on Feb. 23, ended his two years with Prince George's with 1,047 points, 298 rebounds, 146 assists, 58 steals and nine blocks.

Stone, a 6-5 guard, ranked seventh in the region with 18.3 points per game. Stone posted double figures in points 25 times this season including 16 games with at least 20 points and two 30-point performances. He notched a career-high 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. He also recorded 32 points and 10 rebounds for his first collegiate double-double against Garrett and finished the regular season by turning the trick twice.

Stone finished his career with 41 games with 10+ points and 23 games with at least 20 points including two 30-point performances. In his two seasons (2015-16, 2017-18), Stone finished with 871 points, 174 rebounds, 108 assists, 44 steals and 14 blocks.

Ford, a 6-3 guard, ranked third on the team with 14.7 points per game. The sophomore registered double figures in points 25 times this season including six 20-point performances. Ford notched a career-high 26 points against Cecil College and against Northern Virginia Community College.

Ford also finished his career in Largo with 41 double-figure games in points including seven 20-point performances. He also tallied three double-doubles this season. Ford ends his career with 739 points, 226 rebounds, 63 assists, 59 steals and 18 blocks.

Prince George's finished the season 17-14 and advanced to the championship game in both the NJCAA Region XX Division III Tournament and the NJCAA District VII Division III Tournament.
