Prince George's Men's Basketball Falls To Harford In Maryland JUCO Tournament Quarterfinals

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College drops a 90-78 decision to Harford Community College in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) Men's Basketball Quarterfinals on Friday.

Shiloh Beale (Waldorf, Md./St. Charles) paced the Owls (15-12) with a career-high 21 points along with eight rebounds and four assists. The freshman shot 5-for-11 from the floor, 2 of 4 from behind the arc and 9 of 10 from the charity stripe for his first career 20-point performance. Beale has really come into his own in the last six games after posting double figures in all six games including 18 points or more in five of those tilts.

Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) and Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) each added 17 points while Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National Collegiate) added 14 points and seven rebounds in their last contests at Novak Field House. 

Johnson came into the game needing 24 points to reach 1,000 for his Prince George's career and will go into the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region XX Division III Tournament seven points shy of the plateau. Johnson has reached double figures in 53 of his 58 career game while Stone reached double figures for the 37th time in his career and Ford has 38 double-digit point games.

Nine days after Harford rallied for a 98-93 overtime victory against the Owls at Novak Field House, the Fighting Owls took the lead and never let go in the quarterfinals matchup on Friday night.

Harford jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the first four minutes and 29 seconds of the tilt and then extended its lead to 30-13 with 9:08 on the clock.

Prince George's then went on a 20-4 run to trim the margin to 34-33 with 2:48 left in the stanza. Beale powered the spurt with 10 points. The Owls had a chance to take the lead only to see the Fighting Owls close the half by scoring six of the final seven to take a 40-34 advantage going into the locker room.

Harford extended its margin to 12 points at 50-38 with 16:51 left. Prince George's made a run to trim the margin to 63-59 with 7:21 left after a Stone layup. The Fighting Owls scored the next six points and the Owls could get no closer than five points the rest of the way.

Prince George's won the MD JUCO Tournament last year after defeating Garrett 81-71, Harford 70-68 and Baltimore City 63-62 in the three games in the tournament.

The Owls return to action at the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament on Feb. 23-25 hosted by Westmoreland County Community College. Seeding and bracket to be announced.
