Johnson, Stone And Hagins Are Triple And Double Trouble For Garrett In Prince George's Men's Basketball 91-80 Win

MCHENRY, Md. – Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) and Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) combined for 53 points, 20 rebounds and 17 assists to propel Prince George's Community College past Garrett College 91-80 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) men's basketball action on Saturday.
 
Johnson registered his first collegiate triple-double after finishing the game with 21 points, 10 rebounds and a career-high 10 assists. The sophomore went 7-for-12 from the floor, 1 of 4 from behind the arc and 6 of 6 from the free throw line for his seventh 20-point performance of the season and 19th of his career. Johnson reached double figures in rebounds for the third time this campaign and the second-straight contest.
 
Stone narrowly missed a triple-double for the second time in 2017-18 after notching 32 points, a career-best 10 rebounds and seven assists for his first career double-double. Stone made 12 of 24 of his shots from the floor, 2 of 4 from behind the arc and 6 of 9 from the free throw line. It was the second time this season that Stone has recorded a 30-point outburst and second time in his last five games. The sophomore also became the fourth different player this year to record a double-double.
 
James Hagins (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) added his fifth career double-double thanks to 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hagins also reached double figures in points for the 10th time in his career while also tying his career high with five blocks. Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National Collegiate Prep) chipped In 12 points for the Owls (13-5, 4-3 MD JUCO) in the squad's third-straight victory.
 
Prince George's jumped out to a 46-39 advantage after the first half and then held a 45-41 edge in the second half to come away with a 91-80 victory.
 
The Owls return to action on Wednesday when they make their 2018 debut against Howard Community College on Wednesday. Game time is 7 p.m. The night will be Kid's Night Out and any Prince George's County student (Pre-K-12) will be admitted to the game for free along with his/her family. Each student will also receive a free gift courtesy of Prince George's athletics.
