Prince George's Men's Basketball Uses Strong Runs In Each Half To Down CCAC Allegheny, 65-53

LARGO, Md. – Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./National Collegiate Prep) keyed runs in both halves to propel Prince George's Community College past CCAC Allegheny 65-53 in National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III Region XX men's basketball action on Saturday.

Ford powered a 20-7 run to close the first half with six points and then recorded four points to fuel a decisive 11-0 run in the second half to give the Owls (10-4) the lead for good. Ford shot 5-for-7 from the floor and 2 of 3 from the free throw line for his team-leading 12 points. The sophomore also added three steals, two assists and two rebounds in the victory.

Gus Stone (Baltimore, Md./North County) added 11 points and seven rebounds, three assists and two steals while James Hagins (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) chipped in 10 points.

Darren Rivers (District Heights, Md./Duval) narrowly missed a double-double, finishing the game with a career-high nine points along with 10 rebounds. It is the second time Rivers has posted double figures in rebounds after hauling in a career-best 13 boards against Potomac State on Dec. 2. Paul Golder (Laurel, Md./Laurel) registered nine points, seven rebounds and three assists in the winning effort.

Prince George's used a strong run to end the first half and then a surge in the second half to pull away from CCAC Allegheny in the Owls last home game in 2017.

Trailing 28-19, Ford helped the Largo program take a 39-35 lead going into the locker room with six points while Hagins, Stone and Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) each chipped in four points and Golder added a basket in the final five minutes of the first half.

After the Cougars came back and tied the game at 39 with 18:32 remaining in the second half, the Owls scored the next 11 points to take a 50-39 advantage with 13:35 left. Ford sparked this run with four points while Golder and Hagins also had a bucket before Stone drained a 3-pointer to cap the run.

CCAC Allegheny had one last gasp to come back to cut the margin to 50-46 midway through the stanza, but Prince George's scored 15 of the final 23 points to secure the victory.

The Owls travel to Montgomery on Wednesday for its annual neighboring county clash. Tipoff is 5:30 p.m.
