opening tip…
 Prince George's returns to the home hardwood for its final game before the New Year on Saturday when CCAC Allegheny comes to town. The game time has been moved up to 1 p.m. from the previously announced 3 p.m. tipoff after the women's basketball game against Mesabi Range was canceled earlier this year.

last time out… Mykal Johnson paced five Prince George's Community College players in double figures with 30 points to power the Owls past Chesapeake College 93-87 on Thursday.  Johnson shot 10-for-16 from the floor, 4 of 6 from behind the arc and 6 of 7 from the free throw line to reach 30 points for the first time this season and for the third time in his career. It also marks the second-straight game a Prince George's player reached 30 points in a game after Gus Stone posted a career-high 33 points in a thrilling 106-103 double-overtime victory against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. Johnson, who has scored double figures in all 12 games this season, also registered eight rebounds, five assists and five steals. Stone added 21 points and nine assists for the Owls to record his eighth 20-point performance of the season and 15th of his career. Kennith Ford added 14 points and Shiloh Beale scored 12 points while James Hagins tallied his second-straight double-double after finishing the game with 11 points and 10 rebounds. It was the sophomore's third double-double of the season and fifth of his career. Prince George's took a 47-40 lead going into the locker room and despite being edged by the Skipjacks 47-46 in the second half earned its second-straight circuit victory. The Owls have won five of their last seven tilts.

next time on the hardwood… The Owls will travel to Montgomery on Wednesday and St. Mary's JV on Dec. 28 to conclude the 2017 calendar year. After traveling to Anne Arundel to start the New Year on Jan. 5, Prince George's will return to Novak Field House to host Baltimore City on Jan. 10. The Largo program will only have four of its final 12 games at Novak Field House. 

now that's a career day… Sophomore Gus Stone scored a career-high 33 points against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 while fellow sophomore James Hagins tallied personal bests in points (23) and rebounds (16) against the Cardinals. Freshman Darren Rivers registered a career-best eight points and 13 rebounds against Potomac State on Dec. 2. Sophomore Kennith Ford notched a career-high 26 points against Ceil on Nov. 29. The sophomore also hauled in a career-high 10 rebounds to notch his first career double-double against Butler County on Nov. 17. Freshman Shiloh Beale notched a career-high 13 points against Patrick Henry on Nov. 4. Sophomores Paul Golder (14 points) and Tavon Ngangum (12 points) each had a Prince George's highs against Allegany College of Maryland on Nov. 15.

the point is double figures… Sophomore Mykal Johnson has posted double figures in 39 of his 43 career games including all 13 games this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has posted 27 10+ games in his career including 12 of 14 tilts this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has 24 career double-figure point games including 10 this season while sophomore James Hagins has eight 10-point games in his career including six this season. Freshman Shiloh Beale has two double-figure point performances this season. Sophomore Tavon Ngangum has two 10+ games in an Owl uniform and fellow sophomore Paul Golder has one.

20-20 vision…
 Sophomore Mykal Johnson has scored 20 points in a game 17 times and 30 points three in his career, including four this season. Sophomore Gus Stone has 15 20-point performances and reached 30 points in a game for the first time in his career against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6. Stone has scored at least 20 points in eight games this season. Sophomore Kennith Ford has two career 20-point games on his resume including one this season while sophomore James Hagins posted 20 points for the first time in his career against the Cardinals on Dec. 6.

on the boards…
 Sophomore James Hagins has grabbed double figures in rebounds seven times in his career including five times this season. Sophomores Kennith Ford and Mykal Johnson have each hauled in 10 caroms in a game once this season for the first time in their career. Freshman Darren Rivers came off the bench against Potomac State to haul in a career-best 13 caroms on Dec. 2.

double trouble… Sophomore James Hagins has posted five double-doubles including turning the trick three times this season. The sophomore registered a double-double against Westmoreland last season before tallying 14 points and 10 boards against Thaddeus Stevens on Nov. 2 and had a career night with 23 points and 15 rebounds against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 before posting 11 points and 10 boards against Chesapeake on Dec. 14. Sophomore Kennith Ford recorded 18 points and 10 rebounds against Butler County on Nov. 17 and fellow sophomore Mykal Johnson tallied 18 points and 10 rebounds against Westmoreland County on Nov. 18 to notch the duo's first double-double of their careers.  

nice to see you again…
 Sophomore Gus Stone has returned to the Owls for the 2017-18 season after playing in 2016-17. Stone ranked second on the team in his freshman campaign with 14.8 points per game and posted 20 double-figure performances including 11 games with 20 points or more.

welcome to the perch… Along with welcoming back Gus Stone, head coach Brian Johnson has added sophomores Paul GolderTavon Ngangum and Brian Ferguson, and freshmen Shiloh BealeDarren RiversBryon Scriber and AJ Perdomo to the team in 2017-18.

that's gold, jerry, gold…
 Prince George's is celebrating its 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics in 2017-18. Prince George's unveiled gold uniforms for men's soccer against Cecil on Sept. 15 as part of the 50th Anniversary of Prince George's Athletics, A Celebration of the Past, Present, And Future. The men's and women's basketball teams unveiled their gold jerseys for the doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on Dec. 6 and will be wearing them for select games the rest of the season.

hall of fame…
 Prince George's will be holding its inaugural Hall of Fame as part of the 50th Anniversary celebration. Nominations are currently being accepted until Dec. 15 by going to www.pgccowls.com/halloffame.

hosting maryland juco tournament…
 Prince George's will be hosting the Maryland JUCO Tournament for both men's and women's basketball on Feb. 23-25. 

men's basketball tradition…
 The men's basketball team has won the Maryland JUCO Tournament four times (1971-72, 1979-80, 1980-81, 2016-17) and the NJCAA Region XX crown seven times (1990-91, 1992-93, 2007-08, 2011-12, 2013-14, 2014-15, 2015-16).

about the coach… Head coach Brian Johnson begins his second season as the men's basketball head coach. He led the Owls to a 21-9 record last season, to the Maryland JUCO Tournament title and to the NJCAA Region XX Division III title game. The 21 wins marked the first 20 win season since 2013-14. Johnson was inducted into his high school (Mount St. Joseph) hall of fame in the fall of 2017. The Owls are 30-13 under Johnson in his two seasons at the helm.
