Prince George's Men's Basketball Can't Get By The Storm

LARGO, Md. – Prince George's Community College drops a 79-59 decision to Davidson County Community College in men's basketball action on Sunday.

Mykal Johnson (Seat Pleasant, Md./Charles H. Flowers) paced the Owls (7-4) with 19 points. The sophomore has recorded double figures in every game this year and has posted at least 18 points in each of his last five contests.

Kennith Ford (Forestville, Md./Friendship Collegiate Prep) added 14 points and seven rebounds while James Hagins (Roanoke, Va./William Fleming) and Paul Golder (Laurel, Md./Laurel) each chipped in eight points in the loss.

Prince George's jumped out to a fast start in the tilt by scoring 19 of the first 31 points of the afternoon. Johnson fueled the spurt with five points while Tavon Ngangum (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) drained a trey with 13:36 left in the first half to give the Owls their largest lead at 19-12.

The Storm (8-3) then went on a 13-0 run powered by three baskets from behind the arc to take a 25-19 lead with 9:12 on the clock and extended its advantage to 40-31 going into the locker room.

Sparked by four points by Johnson and a 3-pointer by Golder, Prince George's scored the first seven points of the second half to trim the deficit to 40-37 at 16:25 mark. The Owls were able to make it a one-point game after a Johnson basket in the paint at the 14-minute mark at 42-41.

Aided by the 3-ball, Davidson County went on a 20-9 run to reclaim a double-digit advantage and never looked back to earn the victory.

Prince George's returns to action on Wednesday to wrap up a four-game homestand against CCBC Catonsville. Tipoff is 7 p.m. The game will be part of the 50th Anniversary celebration and the Owls will unveil their gold jerseys that night.
