To Has Huge Final Game For Prince George's Community College Baseball

WENTWORTH, N.C. – The result was not what sophomore Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann-Goretti) would have liked for his last game in a Prince George's Community College uniform, but the sophomore made the most of his final contest with the Owls in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) District D Championship on Sunday. After Prince George's won the opener 5-4 and Rockingham County took the second game 8-2, Rockingham County earned the District D title with a come-from-behind 17-15 win on Sunday.

To finished the afternoon with a 5-for-5 performance with a trio of three-run homers in his first three at-bats to stake the Owls out to a 15-6 lead.

Along with To, two-year players Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) and Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) also played their final games in a Prince George's uniform. Adams posted two hits, a run scored and an RBI while Crosby added one hit, three runs scored and an RBI. The trio along with fellow sophomore Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) helped the Owls to back-to-back NJCAA Division III Region XX Baseball Tournament titles.

Vinny Rotundo (New York, N.Y./Middletown) went 2-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored while Pedro Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Nueva) posted a 2-for-4 performance with two runs scored.

Prince George's jumped out to a 15-6 lead through four and a half innings.

Adams helped get the scoring started when he led off the game with a single before Crosby walked and To hit a three-run homer for a 3-0 lead.

After the Eagles tied the game with three in the bottom of the first, the Owls scored five times in the second to take an 8-3 advantage. Shawn Alicea (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street) and Crosby walked in front of To's second three-run homer of the afternoon. Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) was hit by a pitch and Montero walked before Rotundo smacked a two-run single to cap the five-run outburst.

Rockingham County responded with two in the bottom of the second only to see the Largo program answer with six in the top of the fourth to take a 14-5 advantage.

After Montero reached on an error to start the rally and Tommy Petrosinso Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) singled, Rotundo smacked a two-run double. After Jake Brewer (Gibson City, Ill./Melvin Sibley Gibson City) walked and Crosby hit an RBI single before To went yard for the third time in the game for a nine-run advantage.

In the top of the fifth, Alicea reached on a fielder's choice and came around to score on Adams's run-scoring double to restore a nine-run lead at 15-6 after the Eagles scored a run in the fourth.

Prince George's built a 15-6 lead, but Rockingham County scored the final 11 runs of the game and Owls only had three base runners in the final four innings to end the Owls hopes of a return trip to the NJCAA Division III World Series.

Tyrone Miller Jr (Miami, Fla./Norland) took the loss.
