Prince George's Baseball Downs Rainy River 9-3 To Highlight Six Games At 2018 RussMatt Central Florida Invitational

Prince George's played six games at the 2018 RussMatt Central Florida Baseball Invitational. The Owls went 1-5 in the Sunshine State against some outstanding competition including two teams that played in the National Junior College Athletic Conference Division III World Series last season. Prince George's returned to Maryland on a high note after defeating Rainy River Community College 9-3 in their final game of the trip on Thursday.

The Owls return to action on Tuesday against CCBC Dundalk. Game time is 3:30 p.m.

GAME 6: Prince George's 9, Rainy River 3

Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) knocked in four runs to power Prince George's Community College past Rainy River Community College 9-3 on Thursday.

Pietrandrea posted an RBI single in the first, a two-run single in the fourth and an RBI double in the fifth to help the Owls (5-7) end its six-game Florida swing on a winning note. The freshman finished the game 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a run scored.

Alexander Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Neuva) added a 4-for-4 performance with two RBIs and three runs scored while Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) added a 3-for-4 performance with three runs scored and an RBI in the winning effort.

Prince George's scored a run in the bottom of the first to answer the run that Rainy River posted in the top of the frame. Adams started the inning with a single and moved to third on Montero's double before touching home on Pietrandrea's RBI single.

The Owls then took the lead for good with four runs in the second to take a 5-1 lead. Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) doubled with one out and moved to third on O'Neal Torche's (Jersey City, N.J./St. Anthony's) single. Adams brought home Holden on a single and Montero scored two runs before Abdul Mateen Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./The Preparatory High School) brought home Montero on a run-scoring double to cap the four-run stanza.

A three-run fourth increased the Prince George's lead to 8-1. Singles by Adams and Montero started the rally before both runners touched home on Pietrandrea's two-run single. Anthony Cavalier (Sarasota, Fla./Braden River) scored Pietrandrea on an RBI single.

After Rainy River scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Owls answered when Montero notched his fourth base hit of the contest and crossed the plate on Pietrandrea's fourth RBI of the game for a 9-2 advantage.

Rainy River scored a run in the seventh, but Prince. George's earned a 9-3 victory.

Tyrone Miller Jr (Miami, Fla./Norland) got the win after allowing two runs on four hits with nine strikeouts in five innings of work. Starting in the second inning, Miller recorded nine of the next 10 outs via strikeout.

Prince George's Community College lost 12-0 to Northern Essex Community College on Thursday.

Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) and Vinny Rotundo (New York, N.Y./Middletown) each had a hit for the Owls (4-7) in the loss.

Rotundo singled with two outs in the second and was left on base while Pietrandrea doubled with two outs in the fourth before a groundout ended the stanza.

Keaton Bradley (Bahama, N.C./Northern Durham) took the loss.

The Knights scored two in the first and second, three in the third and five in the fourth.

GAME 4: Niagara County 17, Prince George's 3

Prince George's Community College lost 17-3 to Niagara County Community College, last year's national runner up on Wednesday.

Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) paced the Owls (4-6) with a hit, a run scored and an RBI. Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) posted two hits and a run scored and O'Neal Torche (Jersey City, N.J./St. Anthony's) also scored a run in the game.

Prince George's scored three times in the fifth. Torche was hit by a pitch, stole second and came around to score on Adams single. Adams scored on a passed ball and Petrosino also touched home in the frame.

Clark Reese (Greenbelt, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) took the loss.

The Thunder Wolves scored four runs in the first, five in the second and third and three in the fourth.

GAME 3: Rowan College at Gloucester County 18, Prince George's 8

Prince George's Community College battled one of the nation's top teams for four innings before dropping an 18-8 decision to Rowan College at Gloucester County on Wednesday.

Austin Adams (Atlanta, Ga./Whitewater) and Alexander Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Neuva) paced the Owls (4-5) with 2-for-3 performances with two RBIs and two runs scored while Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Mechanicsville, Atlee) added two RBIs, a hit and a run scored.

Prince George's scored two runs in the top of the first. Adams doubled and came around to score on Montero's RBI double. Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) plated Montero on an RBI single.

The Owls tied the game at 5 in the second after scoring three runs thanks to a two-run double by Adams and an RBI single by Montero.

With three runs in the fourth, Prince George's grabbed an 8-6 lead on one of the teams that participated in the National Junior College Athletic Conference (NJCAA) Division III World Series. Adams and Montero were the catalyst for this inning as well after Adams walked and Montero singled. Crosby then brought home both runners on a double and Crosby scurried home on a steal.

The Roadrunners then tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the fourth and an error-filled fifth helped Rowan score 10 runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game.

Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) took the loss.

Prince George's Community College fell 20-14 to Oakton Community College on Tuesday.

Alexander Montero (LaRomana, Dominican Republic/Colegio Neuva) paced the Owls (4-4) with two hits, two runs scored and five RBIs including a three-run homer. Abdul Mateen Bradley (Philadelphia, Pa./The Prepatory School) added two hits and three RBIs including a two-run homer while Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) posted two hits, three RBIs and a run scored and Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) added two hits, two runs scored and two RBIs.

Prince George's scored three runs in the first. Brandon Crosby singled and came around to score on Pietrandrea's RBI single before Bradley smacked a two-run homer for his first collegiate homer.

In the second, Montero reached on an error and crossed the plate on Petrosino's run-scoring double.

The Owls added three runs in the fourth. Steven Fondeur (Hollywood, Fla./South Broward) notched his first collegiate hit, a double, and scored on Petrosino's double. With two outs, Pietrandrea plated Petrosino with a double and then scored on Bradley's RBI single.

In the fourth, Jake Brewer walked and scored on Dominic Marquez's (Long Beach, Fla./Jordan) RBI double. After Fondeur walked, Montero smacked a three-run homer.

Prince George's added three runs in the sixth. Brewer, Marquez singled and Fondeur walked to load the bases. Montero brought two runs home on a single and Petrosino plated another run on a fielder's choice.

Oakton scored six runs in the first and the second, two in the fourth and three in both the fifth and the sixth.

Anthony Cavalier (Sarasota, Fla./Braden River) took the loss for the Owls.

GAME 1: Herkimer 8, Prince George's 4

Prince George's Community College dropped an 8-4 decision to Herkimer College on Tuesday.

Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Mechanicsville, Atlee) paced the Owls (4-3) with a two-run homer, two RBIs and two runs scored. Josh Pietrandrea (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge) and Tommy Petrosino Jr (Bayonne, N.J./St. Anthony's) also scored in the contest.

Prince George's jumped out to a 4-2 lead after the first two innings. Petrosino walked in the top of the first and came around on Crosby's two-run homer. Pietrandrea was hit with the pitch and touched home on a steal for a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the second.

After the Generals scored twice in the bottom of the first to trim the margin to 3-2, the Owls added a run in the second to grab a 4-2 advantage after Crosby walked and scored.

Herkimer then scored four in the third and two in the fourth to earn the 8-4 victory.

Dominic Marquez (Long Beach, Calif./Jordan) took the loss.
