Eighth-Ranked Prince George's Baseball Falls To Cecil, 6-2

NORTH EAST, Md. – Eighth-ranked Prince George's Community College falls to Cecil College 6-2 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Thursday.

Ryan Faircloth (Wade, N.C./Cape Fear) smacked his fourth home run of the season for the Owls (28-12-1, 12-11-1 MD JUCO) while Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) added two hits and an RBI and Kilian Bloat (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) registered a hit and a run scored. Jonathan Mahoney (Largo, Md./Gar-Field (Va.) pitched well in the loss, allowing three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts in six innings of work.

Joe Bagnerise powered the Seahawks (19-24, 15-8 MD JUCO) with two homers and three RBIs while Nick Roepken added three hits and two RBIs in the winning effort.

Cecil scored five of the final six runs to earn the victory and complete the two-game season series sweep after downing Prince George's in Largo earlier this year.

With the game tied at 1, Bagnerise gave the Seahawks the lead for good on a solo homer to left field in the third for a 2-1 edge. Richard Allen plated a run on an RBI single through the left side in the fourth to extend the advantage to two runs.

In the seventh, the Owls answered with a run to trim the margin to 3-2. Bloat reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on the play before touching home on Holden's double to right center.

Cecil responded in the bottom of the seventh with three runs to help seal the 6-2 victory thanks to a two-run homer by Bagnerise and a Roepken RBI single through the left side.

Roepken helped to get the scoring started in the first with an RBI double to give the Seahawks the early 1-0 lead.

Faircloth then sent a drive that just hooked inside the foul pole for his fourth round tripper of the year to knot the game at 1. Cecil then scored five of the next six runs to go on for the victory.

Prince George's concludes the regular season with a doubleheader at Chesapeake on Saturday. First pitch is 12 p.m. The Owls will then be the top seed and host of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX Tournament on May 12-14.
