Eighth-Ranked Prince George's Baseball Drops Maryland JUCO Game At CCBC Catonsville

CATONSVILLE, Md. – Eighth-ranked Prince George's Community College falls to CCBC Catonsville 14-8 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Thursday.

Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) paced the Owls (23-10-1, 9-9-1 MD JUCO) with three hits and three runs scored. Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) added two hits including a two-run homerun while Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) tallied a two-run homer to post a round tripper in his third-straight game in the loss.

CCBC Catonsville used a strong start to the game and never looked back to earn the 14-8 victory.

Prince George's got the scoring started in the game with a run in the first. Crosby walked, stole second and moved to third on Siri-Jacob Ramirez's (Orlando, Fla./Cenapec [Dominican Republic]) single before touching home on McFadden's RBI single.

The Cardinals scored six times in the bottom of the first to take a 6-1 lead.

The Owls cut the CCBC Catonsville lead in half after scoring twice in the second to cut the margin to 6-3. Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) led off the second with a solo homerun to go yard for the second time in five days. With two outs, Crosby singled, stole second and scored to make it a three-run game.

It remained a three-run game until the fifth when CCBC Catonsville posted five runs to extend its margin to 10-3.

Crosby helped Prince George's answer with a run in the sixth. The freshman singled and moved to second on a failed pickoff attempt and came around to score on Dwayne Coleman's (Lothian, Md./Southern)  RBI single to cut the margin to 10-4.

After the Cardinals scored three times in the seventh, the Owls recorded two runs in the eighth after Coleman singled and To powered up for a two-run homer to trim the deficit to 13-6.

CCBC Catonsville posted a run in the bottom of the eighth to increase its margin to 14-6.

Prince George's registered two runs in the ninth to set the final score to 14-8. McFadden led off the ninth with a solo homer while Harold Marte (Haymarket, Va./Battlefield) singled and scored in the stanza.

Marte finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored while Coleman had three hits, an RBI and a run scored.

The Owls have won six of their last eight games and 13 of their last 18 contests while being ranked in the National Junior College Athletic Association Baseball Rankings (NJCAA) in three of the last four weeks.

Prince George's returns to the diamond in a key Region XX doubleheader battle against Westmoreland in Largo on Saturday. First pitch is 12 p.m. The Prince George's athletics department will handout Chick-fil-a sandwiches and a commemorative hat in honor of former head coach William "Bumps" Vaughan for free to the first 100 fans in attendance. Vaughan, who passed away on Feb. 25 at the age of 90, was the Prince George's head coach from 1986-2005 and will be honored in a pregame ceremony before the first pitch against the Wolfpack.

With one win on Saturday, the Owls will clinch the top seed in the upcoming NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament hosted by Prince George's Community College on May 12-14.
