Prince George's Baseball Announces Changes To Schedule For Final Weekend Of Regular Season

LARGO, Md. – The Prince George's baseball team has announced changes to its schedule for the final weekend of the regular season. The Owls doubleheader against Chesapeake, originally scheduled for April 21, has been rescheduled for Saturday, May 6 at Chesapeake. First pitch is 12 p.m. In addition, the home doubleheader against Camden on Sunday, May 7 at 12 p.m. has been cancelled to accommodate a makeup for Camden.

Prince George's has 10 games left in the regular season over the next 10 days with four home games and six road tilts. The Owls travel to CCBC Catonsville on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. game before returning home to host Westmoreland in a key Region XX doubleheader on Saturday and Garrett on Sunday. Both of those doubleheaders will start at 12 p.m.

The twinbill against Westmoreland is also "Catch and Tip Day" at the Prince George's Baseball Field. Fans will receive a Chick-fil-a sandwich and a commemorative hat to honor former head coach William "Bumps" Vaughan for free courtesy of Prince George's athletics. Prior to the first game against the Wolfpack, Prince George's will have a short ceremony to honor Vaughan, who passed away on February 25 at the age of 90.

The squad will then play its final five games of the regular season on the road. The road trip starts with a doubleheader at the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday with a 2 p.m. start time before the squad travels to Cecil on Thursday for a nine-inning affair starting at 3 p.m. Prince George's will then conclude the regular season at Chesapeake on Saturday.

The Owls have won six of their last seven games and 13 of the last 17 games to move into No. 8 in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division III Baseball Rankings. The squad has been in the national rankings in three of the last four weeks and have won 20 games in a season for the first time in 20 years.

Prince George's will host the NJCAA Division III Region XX Tournament on May 12-14. With a win against Westmoreland on Saturday, the Owls will gain the No. 1 seed in the three-day double-elimination tournament. The tournament will start on May 12 with games at 10 a.m., 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. followed by games at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Saturday before the championship bout at 11 a.m. on May 15.
