Ninth-Ranked Prince George's Baseball Rallies For Fifth-Straight Victory; Owls Down Anne Arundel, 10-5

LARGO, Md. – Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored to help ninth-ranked Prince George's Community College rally past Anne Arundel Community College 10-5 in Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball action on Thursday.

Twice in the game McFadden squared the score with the Riverhawks (15-18, 9-8 MD JUCO) thanks to a two-run double in the first to tie the game at 2 and then smacked an RBI single to center in the seventh to even the contest at 5. The freshman gave the Owls (22-8-1, 8-7-1 MD JUCO) the lead in the first when he touched home on a passed ball and then registered the go-ahead run on Siri-Jacob Ramirez's (Orlando, Fla./Cenapec [Dominican Republic]) RBI double in the seventh. McFadden also tossed six innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk.

Michael Hovermill, Jr. (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Spackenkill) pitched the final three innings in relief and allowed one hit with four strikeouts to pick up his second-straight win in relief and his fourth-consecutive decision. The freshman has posted 12.0 innings against Anne Arundel this season and given up one run on five hits with 15 strikeouts and one walk after pitching a complete-game gem against the Riverhawks in a 7-1 victory on Mar. 28.

Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) added two hits, three runs scored and an RBI while Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) recorded two hits, two runs scored and an RBI after smacking his second home run of the season. Austin Adams (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater) came off the bench to notch a two-run single in the winning effort.

Mark Scarlas paced Anne Arundel with three hits, an RBI and a run scored while Samuel Ryan also recorded an RBI in the loss.

After winning its last three games in its last offensive inning, Prince George's didn't need the cardiac machine on Thursday after scoring seven runs in the final two innings to complete the two-game sweep against the Riverhawks.

Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the seventh the Owls scored five times to take the lead they would not relinquish at 10-5.

Crosby started the five-run outburst with a solo homerun to right center. To singled center and scored from first on McFadden's double to deep center to tie the game at 5. With two outs, McFadden moved to third on a wild pitch and touched home with the decisive run on Ramirez's double down the right field line. Adams, who was the hero in Saturday's doubleheader sweep against No. 17 Frederick, capped the stanza with a two-run single up the middle for an 8-5 advantage.

The Largo program tacked on two runs in the eighth to seal a 10-5 victory. Dwayne Coleman (Lothian, Md./Southern) and To hit back-to-back doubles to score Coleman before To touched home on a pair of wild pitches.

In a wild first inning that took 30 minutes and saw five stolen bases and three errors, Prince George's ended the frame with a 3-2 lead.

Anne Arundel got the scoring started in the top of the inning on a Scarlas RBI double before Scarlas stole home for the second run and a 2-0 edge.

The Owls came back with three runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 3-2 advantage. Crosby led off the frame with a single back through the box and then stole second and third as To walked. McFadden then laced a single to center to plate both runners while he moved to second on an error on the play. After McFadden stole third, he scored on a passed ball.

The Riverhawks would tie the game at 3 in the second on an error before scoring twice in the sixth to grab the advantage for the final time at 5-3. After the first run scored on an error, Ryan hit a sacrifice fly to give Anne Arundel a two-run lead. Prince George's scored the final seven runs of the game to come away with a 10-5 victory.

The Owls are 12-3 in their last 15 games and have moved into ninth in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III baseball rankings. The squad has won eight of its last nine against MD JUCO opponents, including winning five consecutive against Division II opponents.

Prince George's returns to action on Saturday with a doubleheader against Chesapeake at the Prince George's Baseball Field. First pitch is 12 p.m. The Owls will honor Prince George's County legendary baseball coach William "Bumps" Vaughan during the afternoon. Vaughan, who coached the Owls for 20 years from 1986-2005, passed away at the age of 90 on Feb. 25. The Prince George's athletic department will giveaway Chick-fila sandwiches and a commemorative baseball hat with the No. 44 on the side of the hat in honor of Vaughan to the first 100 fans in attendance.
