McFadden's Bat And Arm Lifts Prince George's Baseball To Twinbill Sweep Of CCAC-South

LARGO, Md. – Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) drove in three runs in the opener and then posted seven strikeouts on the mound in the nightcap to power Prince George's Community College to a Region XX doubleheader baseball sweep against CC of Alleghany County-South (CACC-South) on Sunday. The Owls (14-5-1) won the opener 6-2 and then took the nightcap 11-1 in five innings.

McFadden pushed across the go-ahead run in the first inning on an RBI fielder's choice to plate the second run of the game before drilling a two-run double in the fifth to help seal the victory. It was McFadden's arm that did the damage in the nightcap after allowing one run on three hits with seven strikeouts in a five-inning complete game for his third win of the season.

Jonathan Mahoney (Largo, Md./Gar-Field [Va.]) allowed two runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in the first game to earn his third win of the year. Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) posted three hits, three RBIs and two runs scored while Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) registered five runs scored, three stolen bases, a base hit and an RBI in the two games. Harold Marte (Largo, Md./Battlefield [Va.]) added two hits and three RBIs in the nightcap.

Kenneth Bruno paced the Tigers (2-6) with three hits, two runs scored and an RBI while Noah LaGuardia and Jose Rodriguez each recorded an RBI on the day.

In the opener, Prince George's scored six of the final seven runs to come away with the 6-2 victory.

After Bruno doubled home a run for CACC-South in the first to give the Tigers their only lead of the afternoon at 1-0, the Owls answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.

Crosby walked, stole second and moved to third on a wild pitch before To tripled to right field to bring home Crosby and tie the game at 1. After Siri-Jacob Ramirez (Orlando, Fla./Cenapec [Dominican Republic]) walked, To scored on McFadden's RBI groundout for a 2-1 lead.

A run in the bottom of the second increased Prince George's edge to three runs. Thomas Thorgersen (Largo, Md./Forest Park [Va.]) singled through the left side and moved to third on Kilian Bloat's (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) opposite field single to put runners at the corners before the duo successfully completed a double steal to score the squad's third run of the game.

The Owls added three insurance runs in the fifth to grab a 6-1 advantage. Crosby started the frame by getting hit with a pitch before Coleman reached on an infield single. After Crosby and Coleman stole second and third, Crosby touched home on Ramirez's RBI infield single. McFadden then crushed a pitch to the gap in right center to score Coleman and Ramirez for the five-run lead.

LaGuardia trimmed the margin to 6-2 with an RBI single to center in the seventh, but the Largo program came away with its third-straight win after sweeping Finger Lakes in a two-game set on Saturday.

After scoring 26 runs in the first three games of the weekend, Prince George's scored 11 times in five innings in the second game to earn an 11-1 five-inning victory.

The offensive outburst continued to start the nightcap with two runs in the first and five runs in the second. Crosby continued to be a walk machine after leading off the first with a bases on balls in the first and then moved to second on Coleman's single up the middle. After Crosby stole third and Coleman took second on separate plays, Marte doubled to right center to plate both runners for a 2-0 edge.

After scoring five runs in the final three innings in the opener against Finger Lakes on Saturday, the Owls notched their fourth five-run inning  in two days in the second inning on Sunday. Jared Davis (Largo, Md./Bayside [Va.]) walked and Crosby reached on an infield single before Coleman was hit with the pitch to load the bases with one out. To then sent a pitch back through the box to bring home Davis and Crosby before two more runs came home on an outfield error. Marte capped the five-run inning and knocked in his third run in two innings with an RBI double to center to give Prince George's a 7-0 advantage.

Rodriguez helped the Tigers answer in the fourth on an RBI groundout to cut the deficit to 7-1.

A four-run fifth by the Largo team sent the home fans home happy by completing a 4-0 weekend with an 11-1 victory. Ryan Faircloth (Wade, N.C./Cape Fear) started the rally with a single to left before Naquan Holden (Brooklyn, N.Y./Perkiomen) was hit with the pitch. After Bloat loaded the bases when he reached on an error, Crosby coaxed a bases loaded walk to force home Faircloth. Holden then scored on a wild pitch and Bloat touched home courtesy of an error before Crosby scurried home on a wild pitch to give the hosts a 10-run five-inning win.

The Owls complete a four-team, seven-game homestand on Monday against Harford. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
