opening pitch… After playing its first Maryland JUCO road game on Tuesday, Prince George's returns home for a seven-game homestand. The Owls will play three-straight doubleheaders, starting with a twinbill against Hagerstown Community College on Thursday. The two teams have split the season series in the last two years.

the word on hawks… Hagerstown, who opens up Maryland JUCO play at Allegany College of Maryland on Wednesday, comes into the week 11-5 overall and 0-0 in league play after losing a two-game set against Kirkwood in Florida on Mar. 11. Sinjin Shoop leads the team with a .455 batting average, 25 hits, 24 runs scored, three doubles, two triples and eight RBIs. Matt Kline ranks second on the squad with a .429 batting average, 24 hits, 17 runs scored, two doubles, a triple, a homer and 18 RBIs while Justin Smith is hitting .414 with 24 hits, 20 runs scored, four doubles, six triples, a homer and 18 RBIs. Kenny Daniels leads the pitching staff with 20.0 innings pitched with a 1-1 record, 23 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA.

last time out… CCBC Dundalk edged Prince George's Community College 5-4 in 10 innings on Tuesday. Bay To paced the Owls with a two-run single while Dakota McFadden tallied a hit, a run scored and an RBI, and Brandon Crosby added a hit and an RBI in the loss. Jonathan Mahoney allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings for Prince George's while Thomas Thorgersen also pitched well after allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts but took the loss.

next on tap… Prince George's continues its seven-game, four-team homestand against Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday while CC of Allegheny County-South comes to town on Sunday and Harford concludes this home stretch on Monday. The Owls, who are in a stretch of playing 10 of its next 11 games in Largo over the next 10 days, travels to Anne Arundel Community College on Mar. 28 and then returns home to host Cecil College on Mar. 30 and Montgomery College on Apr. 1.

weather interruptus… After being able to play the first 13 games of the schedule uninterrupted by weather, four-straight scheduled dates were postponed. The Owls were slated to play Garrett College in a doubleheader on Mar. 12, but cold temperatures forced the twinbill to be rescheduled for April 30 at 12 p.m. The storm that then came through the area moved the March 14 home game against Harford Community College to March 27 at 3:30 p.m. The two-game set against Garrett and the tilt against Harford will both be played in Largo while the game at Cecil on Mar. 16 and two-game set at Alleghany on Mar. 18 were slated to be the first two legs of a four-game road trip before the weather caused those two dates to be postponed. Make up dates to be announced for those two dates.

in the nation… Brandon Crosby leads the National Junior College Athletic Association with 12 stolen bases while ranking eighth with 23 RBIs and eighth with a .520 batting average. Bay To ranks sixth in triples (3) and Harold Marte is ninth in home runs (4). As a team, the Owls lead the NJCAA Division III in slugging percentage (.616) while ranking second in batting average (.401), seventh in stolen bases (37), eighth in RBIs (131) and ninth in home runs (11). NOTE: Prince George's is an NJCAA Division III member so these rankings only include Division III programs in the nation.

in the league…Brandon Crosby leads Maryland JUCO in RBIs (24), batting average (.520) and on-base percentage (.594) while ranking second in hits (26), third in stolen bases (12), 10th in runs (18) and 10th in doubles (5). Dakota McFadden is third in the league in doubles (7) fifth in RBIs (18), ninth in innings pitched (19.1) and ninth in ERA (2.79) while Harold Marte is third in Maryland JUCO in home runs (4). Bay To ranks fourth in triples (3) and ninth in slugging percentage (.725), and Ryan Faircloth s fourth in on-base percentage (.575). Jonathan Mahoney is fourth in strikeouts (29), fourth in strikeouts per nine innings (13.05) and sixth in innings pitched (20.0). Siri-Jacob Ramirez and Quentin Rohrbaugh are tied for sixth in triples (2) in Maryland JUCO. As a team, Prince George's leads Maryland JUCO in batting average (.401) and on-base percentage (.496) while ranking second in triples (12), second in slugging percentage (.616), third in runs (150), third in hits (164), third in doubles (31), third in RBIs (131), third in stolen bases (37) and fourth in home runs (11).  NOTE: The Maryland JUCO is comprised of all the teams from Maryland no matter what division affiliation (Division I, II or III).

the long ball…Prince George's has smacked 11 home runs this season. Harold Marte leads the team with four homers while Dwayne Coleman, Ryan Faircloth and Bay To each have two round trippers, and Dakota McFadden has one home run this season.

the roster… Head coach Buddy Foster has added 11 freshman to his team in 2017 while returning 10 players from last year's team.

a loss to the owls family... Legendary Prince George's baseball coach William "Bumps" Vaughan passed away at the age of 90 on Feb. 25. In his long career as a head coach includes 21 years at the helm of the Owls from 1986-2005. The Owls will be wearing a special patch on their uniforms in honor of Vaughan and the athletic department will pay tribute to the legendary coach at an upcoming game.

about the coach… Head coach Buddy Foster enters his sixth season as the head coach of the baseball team. Foster has been at Prince George's since the 2009 campaign after serving as the squad's pitching coach for three seasons before being elevated to the head coach position. He
