CCBC Dundalk Squeaks By Prince George's Baseball In Extra Innings, 5-4

BALTIMORE, Md. – CCBC Dundalk edges Prince George's Community College 5-4 in 10 innings of a Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference (MD JUCO) baseball contest on Tuesday.

Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) paced the Owls (10-3-1, 0-2-1 MD JUCO) with a two-run single while Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) tallied a hit, a run scored and an RBI, and Brandon Crosby (Richmond, Va./Atlee, Mechanicsville) added a hit and an RBI in the loss.

After the Lions (5-9, 1-1 MD JUCO) tied the game at 4 in the seventh, the two teams played three scoreless innings to head into extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th, Joey Locascio led off the inning with a single and Thirus Jones was hit with a pitch. After Jamie Nail, Jr. moved both runners into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt, Locascio touched home when a balk was called on a pitch while Prince George's was attempting to intentional walk John Staab for the walk-off victory.

Shawn Dignazio retired 18 of the 20 batters he faced, tossing six scoreless innings in relief with eight strikeouts to earn the win. Jones recorded two hits and two runs scored for CCBC Dundalk while Myles White added a two-run base hit in the sixth to tie the game at 4 in the winning effort.

The Owls jumped out to the lead only to see the Lions rally to tie the game and earn the victory in extra innings in the first game for Prince George's since ending in a 10-all standstill in a halted nine-inning affair against CCBC Catonsville on Mar. 9.

The Owls got the scoring started with three runs in the first inning to grab a 3-0 advantage. Siri-Jacob Ramirez (Largo, Md./Cenapfc [Dominican Republic]) started the two-out rally with an opposite field single and moved to second on an error on the play. McFadden then plated Ramirez with double to center field. After Ryan Faircloth (Wade, N.C./Cape Fear) and Quentin Rohrbaugh (Largo, Md./Sherando [Va.]) walked to load the bases, To smacked a two-run single over the centerfielder's head for the bring home McFadden and Faircloth.

Aided by an error, Prince George's added a run in the second to increase the margin to four runs. Austin Adams (Fayetteville, Ga./Whitewater) reached on an a fielder's choice and then moved to third on an error on a failed pickoff attempt before Crosby plated Adams on a sacrifice fly.

The Lions started their comeback with a run in the third and a run in the fourth to cut the margin in half. Patrick Lenivy scored on a passed ball in the third and Justin Mack reached brought home CCBC Dundalk's second run of the afternoon in the fourth on an RBI infield single.

White, who pitched the first four innings, took the loss off of his back with a two-run single to left center to tie the game at 4 in the sixth and earn the no-decision. The Lions then earned the walk-off win on a balk in the 10th.

The Owls had runners on first and third twice in the fourth and attempted a double steal on both occasions, but CCBC Dundalk was able to throw out the runner coming home on both attempts. Dignazio then came in and allowed a Faircloth single to start the sixth and an Adam's single in the 10th, but did not allow a runner to get into scoring position in his six innings.

Jonathan Mahoney (Largo, Md./Gar-Field) allowed four runs (two earned) on five hits with five strikeouts in six innings for Prince George's while Thomas Thorgersen (Largo, Md./Forest Park [Va.]) also pitched well after allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts but took the loss.

The Owls start a four-team, seven-game homestand on Thursday against Hagerstown Community College in a weekday doubleheader. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
