Prince George's Baseball Erupts For 13 Runs In Nightcap To Earn Doubleheader Split With Bergen Community College

LARGO, Md. – Kilian Bloat (Liberty, N.Y./Liberty) knocked in three runs in the nightcap to propel Prince George's Community College past Bergen Community College 13-8 and earn a doubleheader split in non-conference baseball action on Sunday. The Bulldogs won the opener, 7-3.

Bloat went 2-for-3 with three RBIs and a run scored in the victory. The sophomore got the scoring started in the nightcap with a sacrifice fly in a seven-run first inning before adding an RBI single in the third and an RBI triple in the fifth and then scored the 13 run of the game on a wild pitch to cap the afternoon. He added a hit and a run scored in the opener.

Ryan Faircloth (Wade, N.C./Cape Fear) posted four hits on the afternoon, three RBIs and two runs scored for the Owls (10-1) while Dakota McFadden (Largo, Md./Heide Trask [N.C.]) registered three hits, two RBIs and a run scored and Quentin Rohrbaugh (Largo, Md./Sherando [Va.]) added a two-run triple in the nightcap and a run scored on the day.

John Calabrese paced Bergen (3-1) with two hits and three RBIs while Christopher Martucci earned the win in the opener after allowing three runs (two earned) on six hits with seven strikeouts while adding two hits and two runs scored at the dish.

After falling in the opener, Prince George's erupted for 13 runs on 16 hits in the second game to avenge its only loss of the season with a 13-8 win.

The Owls wasted little time in the second game by scoring seven times in the first inning to jump out to a 7-0 lead.

Brandon Crosby (Mitcheville, Md./Atlee, Mechanicsville [Va.]) opened the frame with a double to right center, moved to third on a wild pitch and touched home on Bloat's sacrifice fly. Bay To (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann) followed with a solo home run to left field for a 2-0 lead. After Siri-Jacob Ramirez (Largo, Md./Cenapfc [Dominican Republic])  reached on an infield single and Harold Marte (Largo, Md./Battlefield [Va.]) walked, Faircloth smacked an RBI single through the left side before Rohrbaugh plated Marte and Faircloth on an RBI triple to deep right field for a 5-0 advantage. Crosby, who started the inning, reached on an RBI infield single while Thomas Thorgersen (Largo, Md./Forest Park [Va.]) touched home on an error on the play for a seven-run lead.

The Bulldogs answered with two runs in the second to trim the margin to 7-2 thanks to an RBI single by Calabrese and a Jose Polanco run-scoring groundout.

To led off the bottom of the second with an opposite field triple and came around to score on McFadden's RBI single through the left side to give Prince George's an 8-2 margin.

Prince George's plated two runs in the third to increase the advantage to 10-2. Faircloth reached on a single through the left side and move to third on a failed pickoff attempt before Thorgersen brought home Faircloth on an RBI single through the left side. Bloat capped the two-run rally by scoring Thorgersen on a run-scoring single up the middle.

Bergen came back with a run in the fourth when Joseph Baez coaxed a bases loaded walk to trim the margin to seven runs only to see the Owls respond with a run in the bottom of the inning for an 11-3 lead after McFadden singled to lead off the bottom of the frame and touch home on Faircloth's RBI double to right center.

After the Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the fifth, the Largo program scored twice in the bottom of the stanza to grab a 13-4 advantage. Crosby reached on an infield single, stole second and came around to score on Bloat's triple to center before Bloat touched the plate on a wild pitch.

Bergen scored once in the sixth and three times in the seventh, but could get no closer and the Owls earned the 13-8 win.

Jonathan Mahoney (Largo, Md./Gar-Field [Va.]) earned the win in the second game.

In the opener, the Bulldogs scored seven of the final nine runs to take the first game by the score of 7-3.

Trailing 1-0 in the third, Bergen scored three times to take the lead for good at 3-1. Julio Acosta tied the game with a leadoff homer and Calabrese brought home two runs on an RBI single to right field.

Prince George's responded with a run in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit to 3-2. Bloat reached on an error and came around to score on McFadden's RBI single to right center. The Owls had runners at second and third with one out, but could not push across the tying run after a fielder's choice out at the plate and a strikeout.

Aided by three errors, the Bulldogs scored four runs in the sixth to take a five-run lead.

Marte homered to center in the bottom of the sixth to cut the margin to 7-3, but Prince George's could get no closer and lost for the first time in 2017.

The Owls struck first in the game with a run in the second. Ramirez tripled down the right field line and touched home on Faircloth's RBI single down the left field line. Bergen then used a three and four run innings to come away with the victory.

James Wilcox III (Sterling, Va./Dominon) took the loss for Prince George's in the opener.

The Owls continue their 10-game homestand against CCBC Essex on Tuesday. First pitch is 3:30 p.m.
